Disco Fam!

We are so excited to host our second Public Cupping event at our brand new Radio Milwaukee cafe. Join Alison Schommer, Discourse Head of Coffee and Certified Q-Grader (the sommelier of the coffee world), for an Incredible journey through our new rotation of coffees at the workshop!

This month, we’re featuring the Incredible Little Waves Coffee Roasters, a Latina-led, woman forward coffee roastery In Durham, North Carolina that won Micro-Roastery of the Year in 2022. Alison has curated an Incredible list of Little Waves coffees that span the gambit from clean, washed daily drivers to funky, natural show stoppers. Whether this will be your first cupping or your hundreth, we’re absolutely positive you’ll love this experience and will walk out having learned something new.

WHAT IS CUPPING?!

If you’ve never cupped coffee before, you’re In for a treat. Cupping Is the process by which coffee Is evaluated for taste and aroma, free of the bias of brew method or traditional brewing variables. It’s the closest we can get to discovering the true DNA of a coffee, and an essential step when we’re curating our menus for you all at the workshops. Alison will guide you through the process, and make sure you’re comfortable every step of the way. This Is an absolute delight for the coffee lover, and a great entry Into the wonders of the world of coffee for the unacclimated.

From Little Waves:

Little Waves Coffee Roasters is an award winning impact-driven group of thinkers, dreamers, and doers who delight in the enduring power of coffee as a shared experience. By making small, determined reverberations through sourcing, roasting, and brewing, we add our open-hearted energy to the tides that unconceal and uphold the beauty of coffee and life.

We are small and independently owned and operated, quality, service, and heart-driven, Latina co-owned, women-forward, and our team is composed of people of different cultures, genders, languages, faiths, and beliefs.

With every decision we make, we work to honor people, places, cultures, and histories. We integrate personal narratives into our spaces and offerings in an effort to help our guests and clients feel more connected to us on a human level. We name our roasts and drinks after places that inspire wonder, have cultural significance, and after people and places that we love. Every act is an invitation to connect, and we are fueled by the joy we get from cultivating health and wonder with the world around us.

We strive for sustainability in everything we do from relationship to energy usage. Our Loring S15 Falcon roaster has an 80% reduction in energy usage compared to traditional roasters. Our retail coffee bags are 60% compostable. We divert coffee by-product chaff to be used in local community gardens. Our roastery & cafes divert nearly all of the coffee compost they create to local gardens and farms. Our roastery is located in the Lakewood neighborhood of Durham, North Carolina.
