Disco Fam!

We have another incredible set of coffees featured in the workshops, this time from our friends at Duck-Rabbit Coffee in Cleveland, Ohio. We are incredibly lucky to be welcoming their founder, Cal Verga to our beautiful city of Milwaukee to share his expertise and passion for these roasts. Cal will be assisted by Alison Schommer, our Head of Coffee and Certified Evolved Q-Grader.

This cupping will guide you through our full lineup of single origin offerings, tasting like the pros taste. Join us for a session where we dive into our current Featured Roaster line-up and explore the origins, varieties, and processes that make up our coffee menu. We will not only be cupping every coffee currently featured at our Discourse cafes, but Cal will also be bringing a few surprises to share with us!

ABOUT DUCK-RABBIT COFFEE

We are dedicated to offering some of the world’s most incredible, interesting, hard to reach, rare, exotic, and, of course, delicious coffees. We aim to put forward a diverse, well-balanced, interesting, exciting, and frequently rotating menu of coffees fit to satisfy a wide range of tastes, interests, and brew methods.

At Duck-Rabbit Coffee we think the best experiences of coffee are had from an informed position. We like to discuss things that influence the cup, such as the diversity of terroir, varieties, and processing methods, while also trying to provide a sense of place and who was involved in its production. At the same time, our approach to presentation is one of non-obstruction. We try to set a tone of refined enjoyment and provide worthwhile information but we are careful not to detract or shift focus from the coffee with unnecessary information or things like noisy branding or design.

The deliberateness with how we present and talk about our coffees ties into our company's namesake, the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein. Wittgenstein was an influential 20th century philosopher who offers some important insights into our relationship with the world. One such insight comes in his Philosophical Investigations where he brings his reader's attention to an image that can be seen as a head of a duck or head of a rabbit. Our ability to see the image as either animal rests on our familiarity of both ducks and rabbits. If we were unfamiliar with either animal, we would not be able to see it in the image. Similarly, if we were to drink a nice cup of coffee without knowing important factors relating to the quality and uniqueness of the coffee, then we would likely be able to identity the cup as something that is sensorially pleasing, but it is unlikely, or even impossible, that a higher, more refined, and more meaningful experience could be had.

So, that is what we are trying to create, a meaningful and high quality experience with some of the world’s most special coffees.
